Policy

BME Community Service (BMECS) has been representing Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, their issues and concerns since 2006 at local, county, and occasionally at regional and national levels. BMECS has been very active in ensuring that BAME communities’ issues and concerns are not overlooked and included in all policy decision in West Sussex.

Despite 4 decades of efforts to achieve equal opportunities for all, there are still ongoing inequalities for BAME communities in relation to education, housing, health, employment. These need to be voiced at the highest levels to bring about real change for these communities. In doing so, BMECS recognises that in order to address these inequalities, its input to government policy making on behalf of these communities is crucial.

BMECS intends to influence Government policies at local, county, regional and national levels, in collaboration with other organisations, partnerships and networks to guarantee better outcomes for BAME communities in West Sussex regardless of their race, gender, age, religion or belief, disability, sexual orientation.

On behalf of BAME communities, BMECS will influence government policies by responding to consultations, reviews as well as taking part in policy development/decision events and meetings to ensure that BAME issues are voiced to the relevant authorities.
