Where the Project is Now

Out of Asia project which aims to describe the cultural experiences of people from the Indian sub-continent who have migrated to the Worthing area. Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, this is a fascinating piece of film, detailing the highs and lows, traumas and achievements of this extraordinary group of people; and perhaps most importantly how they have become part of the heritage of our local area.

The project focuses on audio and video interviews with men and women from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka who have migrated to the Worthing area over the past 70 years. We focussed on those who lived at least 10 years of their life in those countries.

Key cultural subjects covered were:

  • Migration

  • Family life

  • Faith and Religion

  • Marriage and Raising Children

  • Working life
