Lelemba Community Empowerment Project (LCEP)

A typical day for pupils of Chitukuko Primary School Our Project in based in Lusaka, Zambia, empowers future leaders by offering support to children and young people based in Mtendere compound who live in single parent homes where there is more than one child and affected or infected by illneses such as HIV, TB, Cancer and other serious illness.

We work in partnership with Chitukuko Primary School, the biggest school in the area. It is a very short of resources, struggling to cope with over 2600 pupils sharing 16 classrooms with no onsite toilets leaving them very vulnerable to diseases such as cholera and dysentry.

According to the School records, at least 45% of the pupils at this school are believed to be orphans, the number could be higher. Most of them are supported by extended family who they themselves are unemployed or have large families of their own. Working together with the staff and Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at this school we aim to support the provision of the following:

Orphaned Sister and Brothers being empowered to become future leaders

  • To build two extra classroom blocks with 3 classrooms each

  • To bulid onsite toilets

  • To provide computers and sewing machines for teaching life skills

  • To facilitate a buddy system for children at the school to be in touch with Children in the UK

  • To provide reasonable finacial assistance for provision of basic school needs for orphaned children and young people such as

    • Books and pens

    • Uniforms and shoes

    • Food parcels

    • and much more!

If you would like to take part or support any of the causes above please feel free to contact us for details!
