Services for Families and Individuals

Black History Month 08At BMECS we work by addressing the needs of families and individuals from the Black and Minority Ethnic communities offering the following services:

  • Drop-In Service

  • Advocacy

  • Multi Cultural Events

  • Weekly Women's Group

  • Equality and Diversity Support for Organisations

  • Health Outreach

  • Cultural Youth Clubs

  • Volunteering Opportunities

Black and Minority Ethnic Groups

Capacity building for BME groups in Adur, Arun, Chichester, Horsham and Worthing Districts working in closely with the existing and new ethnic minority groups offering culturally appropriate supportive services:


  • Encouraging formation of self help community groups

  • Support for trustees

  • Befriending networks

  • Cultural activities and partnership working



We are currently working with Crawley Ethnic Minority Partnership who are offering the Big Lottery funded BASIS project until 2012. Click here to see leaflet

Children and Young People

  • The service includes support and encourage activities for all ethnic minorities from isolated and marginalised families working inline with the Governments intiative of every child matters, whatever their background or their circumstances, supporting them in:


    • being healthy
    • ,
    • staying safe
    • ,
    • enjoying and achieving
    • ,
    • making a positive contribution and;

    • achieving economic well-being.

Support and socialising for families


  • Families and Individuals - we offer a safe, supportive, anti-racist, culturally diverse service for black and mnority ethnic families and individuals and their families and to meet and discuss issues of common concerns.


    • Access to appropriate social/health care services.

    • Family crisis intervention.

    • Drop-in for victims of racism and other forms of abuse

    • Peer education

    • Befriending.

    • Immigration Issues

    • Volunteering opportunities.

    • Life skills training

    • CV writing support

    • Employment advice

BME Counselling

  • We work to help BME individuals improve their physical and mental wellbeing.

  • We offer a culturally sensitive counselling service

  • The service supports the empowerment of and improves self confidence in individuals

  • We use a good practice model that considers factors related to ethnic background, culture, religious belief, immigration status, etc.

  • We can help deal with issues, such as Anxiety, Depression, Addiction, Relationship difficulties and breakdown, HIV, LGBTU issues, Trauma, Bereavement, Illness, Abuse, Domestic Violence and Young People Counselling

  • The service is totally confidential and held in a safe environment to suit our clients
